மர்மம், திகில் மற்றும் எதிர்பாராத திருப்பங்கள் நிறைந்த கதைக்களத்துடன் உருவாகியுள்ள இப்படம், ஹாரர் த்ரில்லர் ரசிகர்களிடையே எதிர்பார்ப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.

Director R. Kannan’s upcoming horror thriller, Yakshini, starring Hansika Motwani in the lead role, has been officially titled, with the announcement made at Kerala’s renowned Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple. The choice of venue holds special significance, as ‘Yakshini’ is another name associated with Chottanikkara Amma. It was for this reason that producer and director R. Kannan chose to unveil the title at the temple. Blending mystery, horror and unexpected twists, Yakshini has already sparked curiosity among fans of the genre, with the film scheduled for a November release.
R. Kannan has carved a distinct place for himself in Tamil cinema by delivering family entertainers and commercial films that appeal to younger audiences. His filmography includes Jayam Kondaan, Kanden Kadhalai, Settai, Ivan Thanthiran and Biskoth, among others. His most recent release, The Great Indian Kitchen, also drew attention from audiences and critics for its compelling story and presentation. Continuing his diverse filmmaking journey, he now joins hands with Hansika Motwani for Yakshini, a horror thriller built around an intriguing premise.
The story follows a young woman working as an officer in the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department who sets out to explore Gandharva Kottai, a fort built by a king many centuries ago. Her search for hidden treasures leads her into a series of mysterious incidents and unexpected twists that propel the narrative forward. With a screenplay driven by horror, suspense and mounting tension, the film promises an engaging experience for fans of the genre.
Adding another dimension to the project, Hansika Motwani appears in dual roles for the first time in her career, portraying both an HR&CE Department officer and a Narikuravar woman. To prepare for the latter role, the actress spent time with members of the community, familiarising herself with their way of life and undergoing training to portray the character authentically. The film is expected to mark a significant milestone in her acting journey.
For some of the film’s prominent sequences, a mammoth mountain-cave set was erected along Chennai’s East Coast Road at a cost of approximately ₹60 lakh. The set recreates the film’s 1943 period setting, with the relevant sequences shot against this specially constructed backdrop. The team has also placed considerable emphasis on the film’s cinematography and music to complement its atmospheric narrative.
Alongside Hansika Motwani, the film features Metro Shirish, Thalaivasal Vijay, Aadukalam Naren, Stunt Silva, Vinodhini, Pavan, Brigida Saga, Vadivel Murugan and Kalairani in prominent roles.
Produced and directed by R. Kannan under the Masala Pix banner, Yakshini has a story by Tholkappiyan and dialogues by Sreeni. Balasubramaniem handles the cinematography, while L.V. Ganesh Muthu has composed the music. Jijindra is responsible for editing, and Stunt Silva has choreographed the action sequences. Johnson handles PRO works.
With the entire shoot completed, the film is now in its final stages of post-production. Updates on the teaser and trailer are expected soon. E5 Entertainments, represented by J. Jayakrishnan, is planning to release Yakshini in November. With its supernatural premise, mysterious setting and suspense-filled narrative, the film aims to offer horror thriller enthusiasts a distinctive cinematic experience.
