நியூட்டன் சினிமா தயாரிப்பில், இயக்குநர் பா. ரஞ்சித் வழங்கும் “மயிலா”, 2026 ரொட்டர்டாம் சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாவில் முதல்முறையாக திரையிடப்படுகிறது.
நடிகை – எழுத்தாளர் – இயக்குநர் செம்மலர் அன்னம் அவர்களின் இயக்கத்தில் உருவான முதல் திரைப்படமான இந்த “மயிலா” திரைப்படத்தை, நியூட்டன் சினிமா கம்பெனி தயாரிப்பில் பிரபல திரைப்பட இயக்குநர் பா. ரஞ்சித் வழங்குகிறார்.
நியூட்டன் சினிமா தயாரித்த இப்படம், 55-வது ரொட்டர்டாம் சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழா (IFFR)-வில் நடைபெறும் “பிரைட் ஃப்யூச்சர்” (Bright Future) பிரிவில் ஜனவரி 29 முதல் பிப்ரவரி 8, 2026 வரை திரையிடப்படும். அனைத்து மொழித் திரைப்படங்களில் ஒன்றாக மயிலா படமும் திரையிடப்பட உள்ளது.
தமிழ்நாட்டின் ஒரு சிறிய கிராமத்தை பின்னணியாகக் கொண்ட “மயிலா” திரைப்படம், தனது சுதந்திரத்திற்காகவும் சுயமரியாதைக்காகவும் போராடும் பெண்ணான பூங்கொடியின் கதையைச் சொல்கிறது.
அவளது மகளான சுடர் என்பவளின் பார்வையில், தன் வாழ்வின் ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் அன்பும் வேதனையும் தாங்கியுள்ள பெண்கள் மற்றும் குழந்தைகளின் பேசப்படாத தைரியத்தை இப்படம் மூலம் பிரதிபலிக்கிறது.
“மயிலா படம் மூலம் சொல்ல வரும் செம்மலரின் குரலா(கருத்து)னது தனித்துவமானது மற்றும் துணிச்சலானது…” என நியூட்டன் சினிமாவின் நிறுவனர் மற்றும் தயாரிப்பாளர் ஆண்டோ சிட்டிலப்பிள்ளி கூறியுள்ளார்.

இயக்குநர் பா.ரஞ்சித் மயிலா படம் மற்றும் இயக்குநர் செம்மலர் அன்னம் பற்றி கூறுகையில், “மயிலா’ எளிய பின்னணியிலிருந்து வரும் உழைக்கும் பெண்களின் வாழ்வியல் சிக்கல்களை; அவர்களின் மன ஓட்டத்தை; உலகை மிக அற்புதமாகப் பேசியிருக்கிறது.
எளிய திரை மொழியில், மிக இயல்பாகவும் மிக நுட்பமாகவும் பேச வேண்டிய ஒரு பெண்ணுலகைப் பதிவு செய்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குநர் செம்மலர் அன்னம். படத்தில் திரைக்கலைஞர் மெலோடியும் சிறுமியும் மிகச் சிறப்பான நடிப்பை வெளிப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள். இந்த படைப்பின் மூலம் எனக்கு ஆச்சர்யத்தைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார் செம்மலர். ‘மயிலா’ ஒரு கவிதையைப்போல எனக்குள் அழகான பாதிப்பை உண்டாக்கியிருக்கிறது!” என்றார்.
இத்திரைப்படத்தில் மயிலாவாக மெலோடி டார்கஸ் நடித்துள்ளார். அவர் பத்தாண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலான மேடை அனுபவம் கொண்ட திறமையான நாடக நடிகையாவார்.
வி.சுடர்கொடி தனது முதல் திரைப்படப் பாத்திரமாக பூங்கொடியின் மகளாக மிக இயல்பாக நடித்துள்ளார். மேலும் கீதா கைலாசம், சத்யா மருதானி, ஆட்டோ சந்திரன், RJ பிரியங்கா, மற்றும் ஜானகி சுரேஷ் ஆகியோரும் இடம் பெற்றுள்ளனர்.

Mayilaa, the much-awaited Tamil-language debut feature by writer-director Semmalar Annam, presented by acclaimed filmmaker Pa Ranjith and produced by Newton Cinema, will have its World Premiere in the Bright Future section of the 55th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), taking place from January 29 to February 8, 2026.
Set in a small village in Tamil Nadu, Mayilaa tells the story of Poongodi, a woman whose struggle for independence and self-respect becomes a journey of quiet rebellion. Through the eyes of her daughter Sudar, the film reflects the unspoken resilience of women and children who carry both tenderness and trauma in their everyday lives.

The film features Melodi Dorcas as Mayilaa, an accomplished theatre actor with over a decade of stage experience. V. Shudar Kodi plays Poongodi’s daughter with striking authenticity in her first screen role. The cast also includes Geetha Kailasam, Sathya Maruthani, Auto Chandran, RJ Priyanka, and Janaki Suresh.
The film’s core creative team includes Vinoth Janakiraman (Cinematography), A. Sreekar Prasad (Editing), Meenakshi Ilayaraja (Background Score and Vocals), and Anand Krishnamoorthi (Sound Design).
Semmalar Annam, who studied Visual Communication and Journalism from PSG CAS, Coimbatore and mentored by indie filmmaker Arunmozhi Sivaprakasam, has also acted in several acclaimed Tamil films.
