Renowned author Perumal Murugan, whose short story “Kodithuni” has been transformed as the feature film “Angammal”, reflected thoughtfully on the adaptation.
Drawn from Perumal Murugan’s acclaimed short story Kodithuni, this cinematic reimagining unfolds with quiet intensity and emotional restraint. At its heart is Geetha Kailasam, whose performance anchors the film with rare authenticity, complemented by finely measured turns from Saran, Bharani, Mullaiyarasi, and Thendral Raghunathan.A joint production of NJOY Films and Firo Movie Station, the film’s visual and aural language bears the distinct signature of Anjoy Samuel’s meditative cinematography and Mohammed Maqbool Mansoor’s evocative music. புகழ் பெற்ற எழுத்தாளர் பெருமாள் முருகனின் ‘கோடித்துணி’ என்ற சிறுகதையின் தழுவலே ‘அங்கம்மாள்’ திரைப்படம். இதுபற்றி பெருமாள் முருகன் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டதாவது, “இந்தப் படத்தின் கதை என்னுடையது என்றாலும் இதற்கான தழுவல் உரிமையை கொடுத்ததோடு என் பங்கு முடிந்துவிட்டது. இதன் பிறகு, இந்தக் கதையை முழுமையாகப் புரிந்து கொண்டு படமாகக் கொண்டு வந்ததில்தான் இயக்குநரின் திறமை உள்ளது. சிறுகதை சினிமாவாக மாறும்போது அதில் பல விஷயங்கள் மாறலாம். குறிப்பாக இந்தக் கதையில் கிளைமாக்ஸ் மற்றும் பெண் கதாபாத்திரங்களை முன்னிலைப்படுத்துவதை சொல்லலாம். 25 நிமிடங்கள் நீளம் கொண்டு குறும்படத்திற்கான கதையை முழுநீள படமாக நேர்த்தியுடனும் ஆழத்துடனும் இயக்குநர் மாற்றியிருக்கிறார்” என்றார்.
பெருமாள் முருகனின் ‘கோடித்துணி’ சிறுகதை தீவிரத்துடனும் ஆழமான உணர்வுகளுடனும் படமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. முதன்மை கதாபாத்திரத்தில் கீதா கைலாசம் நடித்திருக்கிறார். இவருடன் சரண், பரணி, முல்லையரசி மற்றும் தென்றல் ரகுநாதன் ஆகியோரும் நடித்திருக்கின்றனர். இந்தப் படத்திற்கு அஞ்சோய் சாமுவேலின் ஒளிப்பதிவும் முகமது மக்பூல் மன்சூரின் இசையும் படத்திற்கு பெரும்பலம் சேர்த்துள்ளது.
திரைத்துறையில் நல்ல படங்களை வழங்குவதில் பெயர் பெற்ற நிறுவனமான ஸ்டோன் பென்ச் ஃபிலிம்ஸ் இந்தப் படத்தை வழங்குகிறது. தனது முதல் படமான ‘Ave Maria’ மூலம் பாராட்டப்பட்ட விபின் ராதாகிருஷ்ணன் இந்தப் படத்திற்கு திரைக்கதை எழுதி இயக்கியுள்ளார்.
